Job Description

Gananda Central School District is seeking a dedicated, student-centered Elementary Special Education Long-Term Substitute Teacher to provide instructional continuity and support for students with disabilities during a temporary teacher absence from September through November.

  • Provide engaging, developmentally appropriate, and differentiated instruction to elementary students with disabilities.
  • Implement students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), including specially designed instruction, accommodations, modifications, and other required support.
  • Provide instruction and interventions that enable students to access the general education curriculum and make meaningful academic progress.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to support inclusive learning environments and student participation in the general education setting.
  • Develop and maintain predictable, positive classroom routines that promote student independence, engagement, and success.
  • Differentiate instruction based on individual student strengths, needs, learning styles, developmental levels, and IEP goals.
  • Use student work, assessments, progress-monitoring data, observations, and other evidence to guide instructional decisions and monitor student growth.
  • Provide appropriate academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and organizational support based on individual student needs.
  • Establish positive, respectful, and trusting relationships with students.
  • Foster a classroom environment where students feel safe, valued, respected, and confident in their ability to learn.
  • Maintain high expectations for all students while providing the individualized support necessary for them to achieve those expectations.
  • Support students in developing independence, self-advocacy, problem-solving, communication, and other skills necessary for lifelong success.
  • Collaborate with special education teachers, classroom teachers, ENL staff, related service providers, counselors, administrators, and other school personnel.
  • Participate in CSE meetings, grade-level meetings, team meetings, professional learning opportunities, and other meetings as assigned.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation related to student progress, IEP goals, grades, attendance, and instructional services.
  • Communicate effectively, professionally, and respectfully with families regarding student progress, needs, and successes.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with all applicable federal, state, and district requirements related to students with disabilities.
  • Follow district policies and procedures related to student safety, supervision, confidentiality, and professional conduct.
  • Contribute to a positive school culture that reflects Gananda's commitment to inclusion, collaboration, and student success.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal or designee.
Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid New York State teaching certification appropriate for the assignment, including Students with Disabilities, Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or another NYSED certification pathway that authorizes the candidate to provide special education services to the students assigned.
  • Knowledge of effective instructional practices for elementary students with disabilities.
  • Ability to implement IEPs and provide appropriate accommodations, modifications, and specially designed instruction.
